To solve this problem we need the sum of the lengths of both the trains and the difference in their speeds.
Let V1= 30m/sec
Statement 1: we know only the sum of their lengths but we do not know the speed of the other train.thus, this statement alone is not sufficient.
Statement 2: we know the sum of the speeds. Thus V1+ V2= 80m/sec.
Therefore, V2= 50 m/sec.
Therefore, V2-V1= 20m/sec.
But, we don’t know the sum of the lengths of the trains. Thus, this statement alone is not sufficient.
Combining both the statements we get, d= 260m,
V2-V1= 20m/sec.
T= d/(V2-V1).
