Direction: Each question below is followed by two statements I and II...
Given Data:
- Total sum borrowed: Rs. 2000
- Interest rates: 5% p.a. and 8% p.a.

Statement I:
- Sum of interests after 1 year was Rs. 350
- This statement alone is not sufficient to determine how much money the man borrowed at each rate. It only provides the total interest paid, but not the individual amounts borrowed at each rate.

Statement II:
- Interest on first part of sum was thrice that of another
- This statement alone is also not sufficient to determine the individual amounts borrowed at each rate. It only gives a ratio of the interests paid on the two amounts borrowed.

Combined:
- When we combine both statements, we can deduce that the first part of the sum borrowed at 5% interest must be three times the amount borrowed at 8% interest. However, we still do not have enough information to calculate the exact amounts borrowed at each rate.
Therefore, neither statement alone is sufficient to answer the question, but when combined, they still do not provide enough information to determine how much money the man borrowed at each rate. Hence, the correct answer is option C - Either I alone or II alone.

Direction: Each question below is followed by two statements I and II...
Let the first part borrowed at 5% be x and 8% be (2000-x)
From statement I:
Total interest = Rs.350
SI = P × r × n /100
(x × 5 × 1)/100 + ((2000-x) × 8 × 1)/100 = 350
5x/100 + (16000 – 8x)/100 = 350
From here we can calculate x and hence individual amounts
From statement II:
Interest on Rs. (2000-x) = 3 × interest on Rs.x
Applying SI formula
((2000-x) × 8 × 1)/100 = 3 × (x ×5 ×1)/100
This gives x
Hence statements I alone or II alone is sufficient to answer
