The sum of four numbers is 126. The ratio of first number to the second number is 4:3 respectively and the ratio of third number to the fourth number is 3:4 respectively. If the fourth number is greater than the second number by 30, find the average of first and third number.

Let, the first number and the second number be 4x and 3x respectively
Let, the third number and the fourth number be 3y and 4y respectively
According to the question,
4x+3x+3y+4y=126
7x+7y=126
x+y=18
Also,
4y – 3x = 30
4y – 3(18 – y) = 30
4y – 54 + 3y = 30
7y = 84
y = 12
So, x = 18 – y = 18 – 12 = 6
So, the first number = 6 x 4 = 24
And the third number = 3 x 12 = 36
Therefore, the required average = (24+36)/2=60/2=30
So option (b) is the correct answer.
