Stiffness matrix can be obtained by making second co-ordinate, i.e. rotation in the direction of 2 as zero and considering unit rotation in the direction of co-ordinate 1.
Rotational stiffness of beam AB
And rotational stiffness of beam BC
=
Hence, required stiffness in the direction of 1 to produce unit rotation = 2El + El = 3El
Thus, K11 = 3El
As carry over factor is half,
Hence, moment generated at point C in the direction of co-ordinate 2 = 1/2 x EI
= 0.5 El
Similarly, make D1 = 0 and D2 = 1.0
∴ K12 = 0.5 El
