Answer:

Extraction of metal from the ore cassiterite involves carbon reduction of an oxide ore, removal of copper impurity, and removal of iron impurity.

Carbon Reduction of an Oxide Ore:
Cassiterite is the primary ore of tin, which is extracted from its oxide form. The process of extracting tin from cassiterite involves carbon reduction. The carbon reduction process is also known as smelting. In this process, the cassiterite ore is mixed with carbon (usually in the form of coke) and heated in a furnace. The carbon reacts with the oxygen in the cassiterite ore, reducing it to tin metal and carbon dioxide gas according to the following reaction:
SnO2 + 2C → Sn + 2CO

Removal of Copper Impurity:
During the extraction of tin from cassiterite, copper impurities may be present in the ore. Copper impurities can be removed by a process called liquation. In liquation, the cassiterite ore is heated in a furnace to a temperature above the melting point of copper but below the melting point of tin. As a result, the molten copper separates from the tin and can be easily removed.

Removal of Iron Impurity:
Iron impurities may also be present in cassiterite ore. These impurities can be removed by a process called magnetic separation. In magnetic separation, the crushed and powdered cassiterite ore is passed over a magnetic roller. The magnetic roller attracts the iron impurities, separating them from the tin ore.

Summary:

- Extraction of metal from the ore cassiterite involves carbon reduction of an oxide ore, removal of copper impurity, and removal of iron impurity.
- Carbon reduction is used to extract tin from cassiterite by heating the ore with carbon in a furnace.
- Liquation is used to remove copper impurities by heating the ore to separate molten copper from tin.
- Magnetic separation is used to remove iron impurities by passing the crushed ore over a magnetic roller.

Extraction of metal from the ore cassiterite involves is aa)carbon red...
Tin is obtained by reducing the ore cassiterite with coal in a reverberatory furnace; Limestone is added to produce a slag with the impurities, which can be separated.
SnO+ 2C⟶ Sn + 2CO
Crude tin so obtained is contaminated with iron, copper, lead and other metals. It is, therefore, remelted on an inclined furnace. The process is called liquation.
The initial step involves melting the easily fusible tin, causing it to separate from the less fusible impurities. The molten tin is then stirred with green wooden poles while exposed to air. During this poling process, any remaining metal impurities undergo oxidation, resulting in the formation of a scum that rises to the surface and can be subsequently removed for purification purposes. This technique is known as poling.
