Eight persons – Meloditha, Elexa, Zen, Xbaithya, Naincy, Defa, Aadithya, and Yogitha are living in a four floor building marked 1 to 4 from bottom to top respectively. There are two flats on each floor viz.- flat I and flat II from west to east respectively. Each person wears a jersey with different numbers printed on the back.
Note:
I. If the number of letters in the person’s name is even, then their jersey numbers are obtained by multiplying the total number of letters of their name by either 4 or 5. (E.g.)The total number of letters in the name is 6. Then the person’s jersey number is either ‘24’ or ‘30’.
II. If the number of letters in the person’s name is odd, then their jersey numbers are obtained by multiplying the total number of letters of their name by either 3 or 6. (E.g) The total number of letters in the name is 3. Then the person’s jersey number is either ‘9’ or ‘18’.
III. If the person’s name starts with a letter which is in the first half of the alphabetical series, then the person lives on an odd numbered floor, else the person lives on an even numbered floor.
Naincy lives two floors below the one whose jersey number is a multiple of 10 but both are not living in the same flat. We have:
Possible jersey numbers of all persons are:
Now, we have:
  • Naincy lives two floors below the one whose jersey number is a multiple of 10 but both are not living in the same flat.
Since, Naincy name comes in the second half of the alphabetical series, thus must live on an even number floor.
Now, only possible person living on floor number four is Xbaithya with jersey number 40.
That means, in case (1) Naincy lives in Flat I of floor 2, in case (2) Naincy lives in Flat II of floor 2.
Based on the above given information we have:
Again, we have:
The one whose jersey number is 20 lives two floors above the one whose jersey number is 12 less than Meloditha in the same flat
Since, only jersey number of Defa is possibly 20, thus, Defa lives two floors above the one whose jersey number is 12 less than Meloditha in the same flat.
Now, only possible jersey number of Meloditha is 27 or 54, thus the possible person with jersey number 12 less than Meloditha must be either Elexa with jersey number 15 or Yogitha with jersey number 42.
But, Yogitha can’t live on an odd numbered floor, that means, Elexa lives two floors below Defa.
Meloditha lives immediate southwest of the one whose jersey number is 11 less than the jersey number of Aadithya.
Since, the possible jersey number of Aadithya is either 32 or 40, thus the jersey number of a person 11 less than Aadithya is only 21.
Now, only possible jersey number of Yogitha is 21.
Thus, in case (1) & case (2) Defa lives in Flat II of floor number 3.
Based on the above given information we have:
Again, we have:
  • Aadithya lives southwest of the one whose jersey number is six more than Zen.
That means, in case (2) Aadithya lives in flat I of floor number 1, and Naincy’s jersey number is 24.
Based on the above given information we have:
