Let assume, number of girls as y.
Number of boys as x,
x + y = 256 ----(I)
From the ratios,
x/y = 11/5
⇒ x = 11y/5 ----(II)
Substitute the value of Eq(II) in Eq(I),
⇒ 11y/5 + y= 256
⇒ 16y = 256 × 5
⇒ y = 80
For the value of x,
⇒ x + 80 = 256
⇒ x = 256 - 80 = 176
Total number of boys participated = 176
Total number of girls participated = 80
Number of girls participated in dancing and painting = 40/100 × 80 = 32
Number of girls participated in painting = 32/2 = 16
