Find the flocculating value of the effective ion formed when 4 ml of 0...
Calculation of Flocculating Value:

Given:
- Volume of barium chloride solution added = 4 ml
- Concentration of barium chloride solution = 0.005 M
- Volume of arsenic sulphide solution = 16 ml
- Time of complete coagulation = 2 hours

Step 1: Determine the moles of barium chloride:
- Moles = Volume x Concentration
- Moles of barium chloride = 4 ml x 0.005 M = 0.02 mmol

Step 2: Determine the moles of effective ion formed:
- In the reaction between barium chloride and arsenic sulphide, the effective ion formed is Ba2+.
- BaCl2 + As2S3 → BaS + 2Cl- + As2S3
- Moles of effective ion formed = Moles of barium chloride = 0.02 mmol

Step 3: Calculate the flocculating value:
- Flocculating value is the number of ions required for the complete coagulation of 1 mole of the colloid.
- Flocculating value = Moles of effective ion formed / Moles of colloid
- Moles of colloid = Volume x Concentration
- Moles of colloid = 16 ml x 0.005 M = 0.08 mmol
- Flocculating value = 0.02 mmol / 0.08 mmol = 0.25

Conclusion:
The flocculating value of the effective ion formed when 4 ml of 0.005 M solution of barium chloride is added to 16 ml solution of arsenic sulphide after complete coagulation of 2 hours is 1.
