After 4 years the ratio of ages of Rakesh and Ramu is 6:5 respectively.
Let the ages of Rakesh and Ramu after 4 years are 6p and 5p respectively.
Present age of Rakesh = 6p - 4
Present age of Ramu = 5p - 4
Nine years ago the ratio of the ages of Ramu and Rahul was 3:2 respectively.
Let the ages of Ramu and Rahul nine years ago are 3q and 2q respectively.
Present age of Ramu = 3q + 9
Present age of Rahul = 2q + 9
⇒ 5p - 4 = 3q + 9
⇒ 5p - 3q = 13…….(1)
After 17 years the age of Rahul is equal to the present age of Rakesh.
2q + 9 + 17 = 6p - 4
6p - 2q = 30………(2)
Solving (2) x 3 - (1) x 2 we get,
18p - 10p = 90 - 26
8p = 64
p = 8
Present age of Rakesh = 6p - 4 = 6(8) - 4 = 44 years
Age of Rakesh after 8 years = 44 + 8 = 52 years
Quantity 1 = 52
Quantity 1 > Quantity 2
