The play beautifully gives a very strong message of love,pity,peace and mercy.it is these human virtues that can change even a stone into a good human being. the bishop stands for this virtues.the convict stands for cruelty,ammalism,hard-heartedness. the convict is a beast because of the harsh treatment meted out to him by the prison authorities,but by love,c compassion and sympathy the bishop turns the wild man into a real human being. thus, the play gives out a message that love, mercy and pity are the real qualities.one must practice them at any cost to lead a contended and care free life.....

The play expresses that we should hate the crime not the criminals. no man is Bond a criminal circumstances make him so .Society at large is the culprit because it punishes a criminal without finding the root cause of crime. by hating a criminal, by cheating him like a beast will not give him a chance to improve. the society must act to find out the clear facts of the situation. the Convict was not bad he had to steal because he needed some money to buy food for his ailing wife. society did nothing to meet his needs. he was put behind the bars and without finding the fact. here the punishment could Severe no surplus. he could not reform. but The Bishop's goodness and loving treatment transformed him to be a human again. so we can say that love and sympathy is more effective than the punishment.
