Hydrogen peroxide in its reaction with KIO4 and NH2OH respectively, is...
Hydrogen peroxide acts as a reducing agent when it reacts with KIO4 and as an oxidizing agent when it reacts with NH2OH. Let's understand this in detail.

Reaction with KIO4:

KIO4 is a strong oxidizing agent, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a reducing agent. When they react together, the following reaction takes place:

2KIO4 + 5H2O2 → 2KIO3 + 5O2 + 8H2O

In this reaction, H2O2 donates electrons to KIO4, which gets reduced to KIO3, and H2O2 itself gets oxidized to O2. Therefore, H2O2 acts as a reducing agent in this reaction.

Reaction with NH2OH:

NH2OH is a weak reducing agent, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a strong oxidizing agent. When they react together, the following reaction takes place:

2NH2OH + H2O2 → N2 + 3H2O

In this reaction, H2O2 donates electrons to NH2OH, which gets oxidized to N2, and H2O2 itself gets reduced to H2O. Therefore, H2O2 acts as an oxidizing agent in this reaction.

Conclusion:

In summary, hydrogen peroxide can act as both a reducing agent and an oxidizing agent depending on the reaction it is involved in. In the case of KIO4, it acts as a reducing agent, whereas in the case of NH2OH, it acts as an oxidizing agent.
