To find the probability that a family chosen at random will have a certain number of children, we need to divide the number of families with that number of children by the total number of families surveyed.

Given data:
- Number of families surveyed = 400
- Number of families with 0 children = 56
- Number of families with 1 child = 62
- Number of families with 2 children = 183
- Number of families with 3 children = 73
- Number of families with 4 children = 26

i. Probability of a family having 4 children:
The number of families with 4 children is 26. Therefore, the probability of randomly selecting a family with 4 children is:
Probability = Number of families with 4 children / Total number of families surveyed
Probability = 26 / 400
Probability = 0.065 or 6.5%

ii. Probability of a family having 1 or 2 children:
The number of families with 1 child is 62 and the number of families with 2 children is 183. To find the total number of families with 1 or 2 children, we add these two numbers together:
Total number of families with 1 or 2 children = 62 + 183 = 245
Therefore, the probability of randomly selecting a family with 1 or 2 children is:
Probability = Number of families with 1 or 2 children / Total number of families surveyed
Probability = 245 / 400
Probability = 0.6125 or 61.25%

To summarize:
i. The probability of a family chosen at random having 4 children is 6.5%.
ii. The probability of a family chosen at random having 1 or 2 children is 61.25%.

Note: The probabilities calculated are based on the assumption that the survey accurately represents the entire population of the town.
