How many tiers are there in the SSC CGL Exam?
The SSC CGL Exam has four tiers:
1. Tier-I (Preliminary Exam):
- The Tier-I exam is the initial stage of the SSC CGL Exam.
- It is a computer-based examination consisting of multiple-choice questions.
- The test is divided into four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
- The duration of the exam is 60 minutes, and it carries a total of 200 marks.
- Negative marking of 0.50 marks is applicable for each wrong answer.
2. Tier-II (Mains Exam):
- The Tier-II exam is the second stage of the SSC CGL Exam.
- It is also a computer-based examination.
- The test is divided into four papers: Quantitative Abilities, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics, and General Studies (Finance and Economics).
- The duration of each paper is 2 hours, and each paper carries a total of 200 marks.
- Negative marking of 0.25 marks is applicable for each wrong answer in Paper-I, III, and IV, while Paper-II has a negative marking of 0.50 marks.
3. Tier-III (Descriptive Exam):
- The Tier-III exam is a descriptive paper that aims to evaluate the writing skills of candidates.
- It is conducted offline (pen and paper mode).
- Candidates are required to write an essay or letter or application in English or Hindi.
- The duration of the exam is 60 minutes, and it carries a total of 100 marks.
- This paper is qualifying in nature, and candidates must score a minimum of 33% to qualify for the next stage.
4. Tier-IV (Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test):
- The Tier-IV exam is the final stage of the SSC CGL Exam.
- It consists of skill tests or computer proficiency tests, depending on the post applied for.
- The skill test may include Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) or Computer Proficiency Test (CPT).
- DEST evaluates the typing speed of candidates, while CPT assesses their proficiency in handling computer applications.
- The final merit list is prepared based on the combined scores of Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III.
Note: The cut-off marks for each tier may vary based on the category and post applied for. Candidates must qualify in each tier to progress to the next stage of the SSC CGL Exam.
