Time Duration for Each Tier of SSC CGL Exam

The SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) Exam is conducted in four tiers. Each tier has a specific time duration allotted for candidates to complete the exam. The details of the time duration for each tier are as follows:

Tier 1: Online Computer Based Examination (CBE)
The Tier 1 exam of SSC CGL is conducted in an online computer-based format. The time duration for this tier is 60 minutes (1 hour). The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Tier 2: Online Computer Based Examination (CBE)
The Tier 2 exam is also conducted in an online computer-based format. The time duration for this tier is divided into different sections. The total time duration for Tier 2 is 120 minutes (2 hours). The exam consists of four papers:

1. Paper 1: Quantitative Abilities - The time duration for this paper is 120 minutes, and candidates are required to answer 100 questions.
2. Paper 2: English Language and Comprehension - The time duration for this paper is 120 minutes, and candidates are required to answer 200 questions.
3. Paper 3: Statistics (only for candidates applying for the Statistical Investigator Grade-II and Compiler posts) - The time duration for this paper is 120 minutes, and candidates are required to answer 100 questions.
4. Paper 4: General Studies (Finance and Economics, only for candidates applying for the Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer posts) - The time duration for this paper is 120 minutes, and candidates are required to answer 100 questions.

Tier 3: Descriptive Paper
The Tier 3 exam of SSC CGL is a descriptive paper conducted in pen and paper mode. The time duration for this tier is 60 minutes (1 hour). Candidates are required to write an essay or letter/application within the given time frame. The word limit for the essay is 250 words, while for the letter/application, it is 150 words.

Tier 4: Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)/Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
The Tier 4 exam is a skill test conducted for specific posts. The time duration for this tier may vary depending on the specific skill test required for the post. The DEST and CPT are qualifying in nature and do not carry any marks. The time duration for these tests is generally around 15 minutes to 1 hour.
