The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts the Probationary Officer (PO) exam every year to recruit candidates for various public sector banks. The examination pattern for IBPS PO has undergone some changes and updates as mentioned in the exam notification.


Introduction of Sectional Time Limit: In the preliminary examination, a new sectional time limit has been introduced. Previously, candidates had to attempt three sections - English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability - within a composite time limit. However, with the new pattern, candidates will have separate time limits for each section.

Reduction in Time Duration: The overall time duration for the preliminary examination has been reduced. Previously, candidates were given 60 minutes to complete the exam. However, with the new pattern, the time duration has been reduced to 45 minutes.


Introduction of Descriptive Paper: A significant change in the main examination is the introduction of a descriptive paper. Previously, the main examination consisted of only objective-type questions. However, now candidates are required to attempt both objective and descriptive questions. The descriptive paper will assess candidates' writing skills and will include questions on essay writing, letter writing, and precis writing.

Reduction in Number of Questions: The number of questions in the main examination has been reduced. Previously, candidates had to attempt a large number of questions in various sections. However, with the new pattern, the number of questions has been reduced, allowing candidates to focus on quality rather than quantity.

Change in Weightage of Sections: The weightage of different sections in the main examination has been modified. Previously, each section had a fixed number of questions and marks. However, with the new pattern, the weightage of sections may vary, and the number of questions and marks allocated to each section may differ from the previous pattern.
