President's rule was imposed for the first time in January 1968 which lasted for a month.
President's rule was again imposed in July 1969.

Important facts:-

After this, President's rule was imposed in 1972, 1977, 1980, and 1995.
President's rule was imposed for the last time in 1999, after which Rabri Devi became the Chief Minister.
Till now, Uttar Pradesh has been under President's rule the maximum number of times.
Punjab is at the forefront in terms of the imposition of the President's rule for the longest time.
The President can use Article 356 to impose President's rule in a state which is also called 'State Emergency' or 'Constitutional Emergency' .

Political aspects:-

The emergency provisions are contained in Part XVIII of the Constitution of India, from Article 352 to 360.

The Constitution stipulates three types of emergencies-

National Emergency
Constitutional Emergency
Financial Emergency
- The 38th Amendment Act of 1975 made the declaration of National Emergency immune to judicial review. But, this provision was subsequently deleted by the 44th Amendment Act of 1978.
