  • The assent of the Governor or the President is necessary for a bill to become a law.
  • Article 200 of the Constitution   provides four options for the Governor when a bill is passed by the legislature-
    • The governor can give his assent directly.
    • The governor can withhold his assent.
    • He can also reserve it for the consideration of the President.
    • He can return the bill to the legislature with a request to reconsider the bill or any particular provision of the bill.
  • If the legislature re-passes the bill without accepting any of the amendments suggested by the governor, it is constitutionally bound to assent to the bill.
