Categories Eligible for Reservation in UGC NET Exam
UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national level examination conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the role of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The reservation policy in the UGC NET exam ensures equal opportunities for candidates from various categories. The different categories eligible for reservation in the UGC NET exam are as follows:
1. Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Under the reservation policy, a certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) category.
- Candidates belonging to SC category are required to submit valid caste certificates issued by competent authorities in order to avail the benefits of reservation.
2. Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Similar to the SC category, a certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
- Candidates belonging to ST category are required to submit valid caste certificates issued by competent authorities to avail the benefits of reservation.
3. Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL)
- The Other Backward Classes (OBC) category is divided into two sub-categories, namely Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) and Creamy Layer.
- A certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL category.
- Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL category need to submit valid caste certificates issued by competent authorities to avail the benefits of reservation.
4. Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
- The Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category was introduced in 2019 to provide reservation benefits to candidates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- A certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the EWS category.
- Candidates belonging to the EWS category need to submit valid income and asset certificates issued by competent authorities to avail the benefits of reservation.
5. Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
- Under the reservation policy, a certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates with disabilities.
- Candidates with disabilities need to provide valid disability certificates issued by competent authorities to avail the benefits of reservation.
- Various categories of disabilities, such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, etc., are considered for reservation.
6. Transgender Candidates
- Transgender candidates are also eligible for reservation benefits in the UGC NET exam.
- They need to provide valid certificates or documents supporting their transgender identity to avail the benefits of reservation.
