Calculation:
Number of students in class A = 600
Number of students in class B = 600 × 1.4 = 840
Number of students in class A in Arts = (1/5) × 600 = 120
Number of students in class A in Science = (1/3) × 600 = 200
Number of students in class A in Commerce = 600 – 120 – 200 = 280
Number of students in class B in Science = 480 – 200 = 280
Number of students in class B in Commerce
= (3/7) × (840 - 280) = (3/7) × 560 = 240
Number of students in class B in Arts = 840 – 280 – 240 = 320

Average = (Total number of Commerce + Total number of Science)/2
⇒ Average = (520 + 480)/2
⇒ Average = 500
∴ The average number of students of commerce and science in both classes is 500.
