Explain alternation of generation in angiosperms?
In plants, formation of haploid and diploid bodies occur because both the haploid and diploid cells are able to divide by mitosis. The haploid plant body known as gametophyte produces gametes by mitosis. After thw fertilization the diploid zygote also divides by mitosis to peoducw a diploid saprophytic plant body. The diploid saprophytes undergo meiosis to produce haploid spores which in turn divide by mitosis to form a haploid plant body once again. Thus, during the life cycle of sexually reproducing plant, there is an alternation of generation between gamete producing haploid gametophyte and spore producing diploid sporophyte.
