In order to encourage the local administration in the villages of Maharashtra to take steps to contain the spread of COVID-19, the state government announced a 'Corona Free Village' competition.

Important facts

The winning village of each of the six revenue divisions of the state will get a prize money of Rs 50 lakh.
Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Hassan Mushrif said that this competition is a part of the recently announced 'My Village Corona Free' initiative by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He said, “The aim is to make talukas, districts and eventually the entire state of Maharashtra corona free at the earliest.
The participating villages will be assessed on the basis of 22 criteria by a committee constituted for the purpose.

Prize money

Awards for managing the pandemic will be given to three gram panchayats in each of the state's six revenue divisions. The first prize will carry Rs 50 lakh while the second and third prizes will carry Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively.
