The selection process for SSC CGL consists of four stages:

1. Tier-I: It is a computer-based examination consisting of objective-type questions. It tests the candidate's general intelligence and reasoning ability, general awareness, quantitative aptitude, and English language skills.

2. Tier-II: It is also a computer-based examination and consists of multiple-choice questions. It comprises two papers - Paper I (Quantitative Abilities) and Paper II (English Language and Comprehension).

3. Tier-III: It is a descriptive paper conducted in pen and paper mode. Candidates need to write an essay, précis, letter, or application within the prescribed word limit.

4. Tier-IV: It comprises a skill test or computer proficiency test, depending on the nature of the job.
