Mother Teresa:

Mother Teresa, also known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta, was a Roman Catholic nun and missionary who dedicated her life to serving the poor and destitute. She was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, now the capital of North Macedonia. Throughout her life, Mother Teresa gained worldwide recognition for her selfless acts of charity and compassion, and she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.

Early Life and Religious Calling:

Mother Teresa was born as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu to an Albanian family and was the youngest of three children. At the age of 18, she left home to join the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland, where she received her religious training and took the name Sister Mary Teresa. After completing her training, she was sent to India in 1929, where she taught at a girls' school in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta).

Founding the Missionaries of Charity:

In 1950, Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation that focused on caring for those in desperate need. The congregation started with a small group of dedicated sisters and gradually expanded its reach, establishing orphanages, schools, and hospices for the sick and dying. Today, the Missionaries of Charity has branches in over 130 countries and continues to provide assistance to the poor and marginalized.

Legacy and Canonization:

Mother Teresa's tireless efforts in serving the poor made her a beloved figure worldwide. She was known for her unwavering commitment to the principles of love, compassion, and empathy. Despite facing criticism for her stance on issues such as abortion and contraception, Mother Teresa remained steadfast in her mission to alleviate suffering and bring hope to those in need. In recognition of her exceptional humanitarian work, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003, and she was canonized as a saint by Pope Francis in 2016.

Mother Teresa's legacy lives on through the Missionaries of Charity and the countless lives she touched during her lifetime. She serves as an inspiration to people around the world, reminding us of the power of selflessness and the importance of helping those less fortunate. Mother Teresa's example teaches us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
