The maximum to minimum values of the quantum number J are given by
J = (j1 + j2), (j+ j2 – 1), (j1 + j2 – 2)...|j1 – j2|
∴ For j1 = 2 & j2 = 4, we have
Jmax = 2 + 4 = 6
Jmin = |2 – 4| = 2
Hence possible values are J = 6, 6 – 1, 6 – 2, 6 – 3, 6 – 4,
∴ J = 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
