Number of boys = 33(1/3)% of 45
Overall average marks in Science = 78
As we know,
Average = Sum of values/Number of values
Number of boys =
= (1/3)x 45
= 15
Number of girls = 45 - 15
= 30
66(2/3)% = 2/3
Let the average scores of boys be 3x.
So, average of girls = 5x
According to the question,
15×3x+30×5x = 45×78
⇒ 45x+150x = 3510
⇒ 195x = 3510
⇒ x = 3510/195 = 18
