Drop a crystal of copper sulphate or potassium permanganate into a gla...
When a Drop of Copper Sulphate or Potassium Permanganate are added to a glass of hot water and cold water respectively, we observe that :1. In the glass of cold water, Copper sulphate /KMnO4 crystals settles down at the bottom and whereas in Hot water , CuSO4/KMnO4 crystals spreads slowly and we can see the colour of water changing to blue/pink.2. After some period of time, we an observe that even in cold water CuSO4 /KMnO4 crystals will dissolve in cold water at slow rate whereas in Hot water it dissolves faster and colour of water Changes to blue/Pink .3. This activity suggests that , The particles of matter move continuously . As they move they posses Kinetic energy. As temperature increases, the kinetic energy of particles increases and thus particles get diffused at faster rate.We can conclude from this activity that :1. Diffusion is the property of particles of matter which increases with increase of temperature.2. Temperature is a measure of Average kinetic energy of molecules.?

Observations
- Just above the solid crystal in the glass, you will observe a colored layer or solution.
- In the hot water glass, the colored layer will appear closer to the crystal compared to the cold water glass.

Changes with Time
- As time passes, the colored layer will slowly spread upwards in both glasses.
- In the hot water glass, the spreading process will occur more rapidly compared to the cold water glass.

Particle Behavior
- The observation suggests that the particles of the solid crystal are dissolving in the surrounding liquid.
- The colored layer is formed due to the dissolution of the crystal particles, which then disperse in the water.

Rate of Mixing
- The rate of mixing does change with temperature.
- In the hot water glass, the rate of mixing is faster compared to the cold water glass.
- This is because an increase in temperature generally speeds up chemical reactions, including the dissolution process.

Explanation
- When a crystal of copper sulphate or potassium permanganate is dropped into hot water, the water molecules gain thermal energy, resulting in increased kinetic energy.
- The increased kinetic energy allows the water molecules to move more rapidly and collide with the solid crystal more frequently.
- As a result, the crystal particles dissolve faster in hot water, leading to a rapid formation of the colored layer.
- In cold water, the lower temperature reduces the kinetic energy of the water molecules, resulting in slower movement and less frequent collisions with the crystal particles.
- Therefore, the rate of dissolution and mixing is slower in cold water.

Conclusion
- By observing the position of the colored layer above the solid crystal and the rate of mixing in hot and cold water, we can infer that temperature affects the particle behavior and the rate of mixing.
- The higher the temperature, the faster the dissolution and mixing process due to increased kinetic energy of the water molecules.
