Given:
Time is taken by a man to do the work = 20 days
Time is taken by a woman to do the work = 30 days
Time is taken by a boy to do the work = 40 days
Formula:
Total work = Efficiency × Time is taken
Calculation:
Let the total work be x units
The efficiency of a man = x/20
The efficiency of a woman = x/30
The efficiency of a boy = x/40
So the efficiency of 4 men = 4 x (x/20) = x/5
Now efficiency of 5 boys = 5 × (x/40) = x/8
The total efficiency of 4 men and 5 boys = (x/5) + (x/8) = 13x/40
Now the work is done by 4 men and 5 boys in 4 days.

Remaining work = 2x - initial work
= 2x – (13x/10)  = 7x/10
So the remaining work is done in 1 day by women.
Now the number of women = 
 21 women
∴ Need 21 women assist to complete work in 1 day.
