Can you explain the answer of this question below:The disease chikungu...
Transmission of Chikungunya
Chikungunya is a viral disease that is primarily transmitted to humans through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes mosquitoes are the same mosquitoes that transmit dengue and Zika viruses.
Transmission cycle:
1. Infected person: When a person is infected with the chikungunya virus, the virus circulates in the bloodstream.
2. Mosquito bite: An Aedes mosquito bites an infected person and ingests the virus along with the blood meal.
3. Virus multiplication: The virus multiplies in the mosquito's gut and then spreads to its salivary glands over several days.
4. Infected mosquito: The mosquito becomes infectious and can transmit the virus to other people it bites.
5. Human infection: When an infected mosquito bites a person, the virus is transmitted to the person's bloodstream.
6. Symptoms: Within 3-7 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito, the person develops symptoms such as fever, joint pain, and rash.
Prevention:
- Wearing protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants
- Using mosquito repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus
- Removing standing water from around the home where mosquitoes breed
- Installing screens on doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering
- Using bed nets to prevent mosquito bites while sleeping.
Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for chikungunya. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms such as fever and joint pain. Rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen can help manage symptoms.
