Question Paper for Science Class 6

Section 1: Multiple Choice Questions

  • Question 1: What is the largest planet in our solar system?

  • Question 2: What is the process of plants making their own food called?

  • Question 3: What is the unit of measurement for temperature?

Section 2: Short Answer Questions

Question 1: Explain the process of photosynthesis in plants.
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into glucose (a type of sugar) and oxygen. This process takes place in the chloroplasts of plant cells. The chlorophyll pigment present in the chloroplasts captures sunlight energy, which is used to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose. Oxygen is released as a byproduct. Photosynthesis is crucial for the survival of plants as it provides them with food and releases oxygen into the atmosphere.

Question 2: What are the three states of matter? Explain each state.
The three states of matter are solids, liquids, and gases.

  • Solids: Solids have a fixed shape and volume. The particles in solids are closely packed and have strong attractive forces between them. They vibrate in fixed positions. Examples of solids include wood, metal, and stone.

  • Liquids: Liquids have a definite volume but no fixed shape. The particles in liquids are loosely packed and have weaker attractive forces compared to solids. They can move and flow past each other. Examples of liquids include water, milk, and juice.

  • Gases: Gases have neither a fixed shape nor a fixed volume. The particles in gases are far apart and have very weak attractive forces. They move rapidly and freely. Examples of gases include oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.

Section 3: Long Answer Questions

Question 1: Explain the water cycle in detail.
The water cycle, also known as the hydrologic cycle, is the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the Earth's surface. It involves various processes such as evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff.

  • Evaporation: The sun's heat causes water bodies like rivers, lakes, and oceans to evaporate, turning liquid water into water vapor.

  • Condensation: The water vapor rises into the atmosphere and cools, forming tiny water droplets. These droplets combine to form clouds.

  • Precipitation: When the water droplets in clouds become too heavy, they fall to the ground as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.

  • Runoff: Precipitation that does not evaporate or get absorbed into the ground flows over the land, forming streams, rivers, and eventually reaching the ocean.

  • Infiltration:
