Concept:
  • During the roughly 28-day menstrual cycle, a woman's body undergoes changes brought on by the action of female sex hormones, particularly in the uterus and ovaries of her reproductive system.
  • From the start of the reproductive stage with the first period until menopause, all of these changes are meant to get women ready for a potential pregnancy.
  • Depending on the woman, the period might last between 23 and 35 days.

Hormones in women
Knowing the female sex hormones is a prerequisite to comprehending the menstrual cycle because these hormones are in charge of controlling the entire cycle.

  • FSH and LH are produced by the pituitary gland and the ovaries in a woman (estrogen and progesterone).
Follicle-stimulating hormone, or FSH.
  • Its purpose is to stimulate the ovary so that the primordial follicles form, and it starts to secrete during the start of the sexual cycle.
  • Follicles are fluid-filled organs that house eggs at various stages of development.
Luteinizing growth
Hormone or LH
  • When the follicle containing the egg is fully developed, it causes ovulation to occur.
  • As follicles grow, the ovary secretes hormones called estrogen.
  • In addition to interfering with women's sexual development, they regulate the entire menstrual cycle.
  • Following ovulation, the ovary secretes progesterone.
  • Its primary goal is to thicken the endometrium so that the embryo can implant and become pregnant.
