Initial ratio of milk to water = 5:7
Final ratio of milk to water = 23:21

Solution:

Step 1: Finding the amount of milk and water in the initial mixture
Let the amount of milk in the mixture be 5x liters and the amount of water be 7x liters.
Therefore, 5x + 7x = 144
12x = 144
x = 12
So, the initial amount of milk = 5 * 12 = 60 liters
And the initial amount of water = 7 * 12 = 84 liters

Step 2: Adding milk to the mixture
Let the amount of milk to be added be y liters.
After adding y liters of milk, the total amount of milk becomes 60 + y liters.

Step 3: Finding the new ratio
According to the new ratio,
(60 + y) / 84 = 23 / 21
21(60 + y) = 23 * 84
1260 + 21y = 1932
21y = 672
y = 32
