?35. Amar wrote exams in four subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology a...
Let the maximum marks of each subject = y

Let the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Social studies be 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x.Now, total marks scored in all 4 subjects = 2x + 3x + 4x + 5x = 14x

Total maximum marks of all 4 subjects = 4y

Now, according to question :    (14x/4y * 100)% = 70%⇒14x/4y*100 = 70

⇒y = 5x

%age of marks scored in Physics = (2x/5x*100)% = 40%

%age of marks scored in Chemistry = (3x/5x*100)% = 60%

%age of marks scored in Biology = (4x/5x*100)% = 80%

%age of marks scored in Social Studies = (5x/5x*100)% = 100%

So, he got more than 50% in Chemistry, Biology and Social Studies.

Given Information:
- Amar wrote exams in four subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Social Studies.
- The ratio of marks he got in these exams was 2 : 3 : 4 : 5.
- He got an aggregate of 70% in these exams.
- Each exam had the same maximum marks.

To Find:
- In how many of these exams did Amar get more than 50%?

Solution:

Step 1: Assign values to the variables:
Let's assume that Amar scored 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Social Studies respectively.

Step 2: Calculate the total marks:
Since the maximum marks for each exam are the same, let's assume it to be "m".
Therefore, the total marks obtained by Amar would be 2x + 3x + 4x + 5x = 14x out of a maximum of 4m.

Step 3: Calculate the aggregate percentage:
To calculate the aggregate percentage, we'll use the formula:
Aggregate Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained / Maximum Marks) * 100

Given that Amar's aggregate percentage is 70%, we can write the equation as:
(14x / 4m) * 100 = 70

Step 4: Solve the equation:
Simplifying the equation, we get:
(14x / 4m) = 0.7
14x = 0.7 * 4m
14x = 2.8m
Dividing both sides by 2.8, we get:
5x = m

Step 5: Analyze the ratio of marks:
From the given information, the ratio of marks Amar scored in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Social Studies is 2 : 3 : 4 : 5.
If we substitute the value of m as 5x in the ratio, we get:
2x : 3x : 4x : 5x

Step 6: Identify the exams with more than 50% marks:
To determine the exams in which Amar scored more than 50%, we need to find the subjects where the corresponding ratio is greater than 1/2.
Let's calculate the percentage of marks for each subject:
- Physics: (2x / 5x) * 100 = 40%
- Chemistry: (3x / 5x) * 100 = 60%
- Biology: (4x / 5x) * 100 = 80%
- Social Studies: (5x / 5x) * 100 = 100%

Step 7: Conclusion:
Based on the calculations, Amar scored more than 50% marks in 3 out of the 4 subjects - Chemistry, Biology, and Social Studies. Therefore, he got more than 50% in 3 exams.
