Formation of Tides

Tides are the periodic rise and fall of sea level, occurring twice a day. These are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the earth's water bodies. However, the major cause of tides is the moon's gravitational pull.

Force of attraction between moon and ocean water

The moon's gravitational force attracts the water on the earth's surface towards it, causing a bulge in the ocean water. This bulge is called the high tide. As the earth rotates, the bulge moves along with it, and we experience two high tides and two low tides in a day.

The gravitational force of the moon on the earth's water bodies is stronger on the side facing the moon and weaker on the opposite side. This causes another bulge on the opposite side of the earth, which is called the low tide.

Therefore, the tides are formed due to the gravitational force of the moon on the earth's water bodies.

Other Factors

Although the moon's gravitational force is the major cause of tides, other factors also contribute to the formation of tides. These factors include:

- The gravitational force of the sun: Although the sun's gravitational force is much weaker than the moon's, it also contributes to the formation of tides.
- The rotation of the earth: The rotation of the earth also affects the tides, as it causes the bulges to move around the earth.
- The shape of the coastline: The shape of the coastline can affect the magnitude and timing of tides in different parts of the world.
- Wind and atmospheric pressure: Wind and atmospheric pressure can cause variations in sea level, which can affect the tides.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the tides are primarily formed due to the gravitational force of the moon on the earth's water bodies. However, other factors such as the sun's gravitational force, the rotation of the earth, and the shape of the coastline can also affect the tides.

Tides are formed because of attraction between moon and ocean water as at exact 12:00 moon attracts ocean ocean towards it..at the same time because of the gravitational force it came down ...hence the wave formed...it happens twice a day
