A bullet emerge from a barrel of length 1.2 m with aspeed of 640 ms-1....
Given data:
Length of the barrel, l = 1.2 m
Final velocity of the bullet, v = 640 m/s

To find: Time spent by the bullet in the barrel after the gun is fired.

We know that the motion of the bullet in the barrel is an example of uniformly accelerated motion.

The formula for uniformly accelerated motion is:
v = u + at

where,
v = final velocity
u = initial velocity (which is zero in this case)
a = acceleration
t = time taken

We also know that the acceleration, a is given by:
a = (v^2 - u^2) / 2l

where,
l = length of the barrel

Substituting the given values in the above formula, we get:
a = (640^2 - 0^2) / (2 x 1.2)
a = 182222.22 m/s^2

Substituting the values of v, u and a in the first formula, we get:
640 = 0 + (182222.22)t

Solving for t, we get:
t = 0.0035 s

Therefore, the approximate time that the bullet spends in the barrel after the gun is fired is 0.0035 s or 3.5 ms.

Hence, the correct option is (a) 4 ms.
