Districts of Rajasthan at Independence
At the time of India’s independence in 1947, Rajasthan, which was then known as the Rajputana Agency, comprised several princely states. The administrative structure of these states was quite different from the current districts.
Formation of the State
- Rajasthan was formed on March 30, 1949, by merging the various princely states.
- Initially, it included 22 princely states, which were consolidated to form a single administrative unit.
Number of Districts
- At the time of independence, Rajasthan had only 6 districts:
- Ajmer
- Jaipur
- Jodhpur
- Udaipur
- Bikaner
- Kota
Evolution of Districts
- Over the years, the number of districts in Rajasthan increased significantly due to administrative needs and population growth.
- The reorganization aimed to improve governance and provide better public services.
Current District Structure
- As of now, Rajasthan has 33 districts, showcasing the growth and development of the state post-independence.
