A got30%of the maximum marks in an examination and failed by 10 marks....
Let T be the maximum marks and P the passing marks.
Given A scored 30% of T and failed by 10 marks: 0.30T = P − 10.
Given B scored 40% of T and got 15 marks more than passing: 0.40T = P + 15.
Subtract the first equation from the second: 0.10T = 25. Thus T = 250.
Use T = 250 in 0.40T = P + 15: 0.40 × 250 = 100 = P + 15, so P = 85.
The passing marks are 85, therefore option D ('None of these') is correct.
