  • Distance covered by the body is divided into two equal halves.

  • Speed of the body in the first half, u = 2 m/s

  • Speed of the body in the second half for first time interval, v1 = 3 m/s

  • Speed of the body in the second half for second time interval, v2 = 5 m/s



To find

The average speed of the body for the entire journey.

Solution

Let the distance covered by the body be '2x' meters.
Therefore, distance covered in the first half = x and distance covered in the second half = x

Using the formula,
Total distance = Average speed x Total time
We can write,
2x = Av x (x/2u + x/v1 + x/v2)

On solving, we get,
Av = 24/13 m/s

Therefore, the average speed of the particle for the entire journey is 24/13 m/s.

Therefore, the correct option is (4) 16/3 m/s.
