Determine the diameter of moon by parallax method?
Let the diameter of noon is D.
suppose E is the point on the Earth's surface from where we have to see moon by using telecope. Now, telescope is focused on the moon's surface and image is shown is observed as shown in figure.
With help of telescope , we can determine ∠AEB,
let we get , ∠AEB = Ф
Let S is the shortest distance between moon and earth.
Now, apply tangent for ∆ABE,
∴ tanФ = AB/S [ because angle Ф very small , ∴ AB = S ]
also, if Ф → 0 then, tanФ ≈ Ф
Hence, Ф = AB/S
AB = ФS
Hence, diameter of moon = parallax angle x shortest distance between moon and earth.

Determine the diameter of moon by parallax method?
Introduction
The parallax method is a technique used to determine the diameter of celestial objects such as the moon. It relies on the principle of parallax, which is the apparent shift in the position of an object when viewed from different perspectives. By observing the moon from different locations on Earth, we can measure the parallax angle and use it to calculate the moon's diameter.
Procedure
1. Choose two observation points: To determine the moon's diameter using the parallax method, we need to observe it from two different locations on Earth. These locations should be as far apart as possible to maximize the parallax effect.
2. Observe the moon simultaneously: The two observers should look at the moon simultaneously and note the position of the moon relative to distant background objects, such as stars or landmarks. It is crucial to record the exact time of observation.
3. Measure the parallax angle: By comparing the recorded positions of the moon as seen from the two observation points, we can calculate the parallax angle. The parallax angle is the angular difference between the moon's position as seen from the two locations.
4. Calculate the moon's distance: The parallax angle allows us to determine the moon's distance from Earth. The smaller the parallax angle, the farther away the moon is. The distance can be calculated using trigonometry and the known distance between the two observation points.
5. Use the moon's distance to find the diameter: Once the moon's distance is known, we can calculate its diameter. The formula to calculate the diameter is:
Diameter = Parallax angle * Distance to the moon
6. Convert units if necessary: The calculated diameter may be in a different unit of measurement. If needed, convert the diameter to a more suitable unit, such as kilometers or miles.
Conclusion
The parallax method allows us to determine the diameter of the moon by measuring the parallax angle and calculating the moon's distance. By following the steps mentioned above, we can accurately estimate the size of the moon using this technique. It is an essential method in astronomy for understanding the dimensions of celestial objects in our solar system and beyond.
