The poem The Duck and The Kangaroo is a poem by Edmund Lear. The English landscape painter more widely known as the writer of an original kind of nonsense verse and as the populariser of the limerick. In this poem a duck wants to be able to jump around in the world like a kangaroo. So he asks a kangaroo to take him on its back. The third stanza of the poem very vividly describes the justification given by the Kangaroo for not letting the Duck ride on him. He is polite in presenting his doubt in mind to the duck. He doesn't act rude and shirk away the possibility of the duck riding him. He takes on a very formal tone to ask for the duck's permission to speak boldly. He says that he has objection with the duck riding on him because the latter's feet are wet and cold and would probably give him a roo-matiz.
