Shore winds means warm and cold currents(winds) can affect the climate of the coastal regions when it blows over an ocean current .So,warm currents heat the air and air over the oceans and bring higher temperatures over land .Cold currents can lower air temperatures and can bring colder temperatures over land. For ex-Cochin of Kerala, the Arabian sea keeps this place cooler whereas western Gujarat's region ,the Arabian sea keeps this place hot. Thus, the temperatures of coastal cities is relatively cool/hot.

Effect of Onshore Winds on the Climate of Coastal Regions

Onshore winds are winds that blow from the ocean towards the land. These winds can have a significant impact on the climate of coastal regions, especially when they blow over an ocean current. Let's explore how these winds affect the climate in detail:

1. Introduction:
Onshore winds bring moist air from the ocean onto the land, affecting the temperature, humidity, and precipitation patterns of coastal regions. The interaction between onshore winds and ocean currents further modifies these climatic conditions.

2. Temperature:
- Onshore winds blowing over a cool ocean current tend to lower the temperature of the coastal region. This is because when the wind passes over the cold water, it absorbs heat from the air, resulting in cooler temperatures onshore.
- Conversely, onshore winds blowing over a warm ocean current can increase the temperature of the coastal region. As the wind passes over the warm water, it picks up heat, leading to warmer temperatures onshore.

3. Humidity:
- Onshore winds blowing over an ocean current can significantly affect the humidity of coastal regions. When the wind passes over a warm current, it picks up moisture from the water, increasing the humidity onshore.
- On the other hand, if the wind blows over a cold current, it absorbs less moisture, resulting in lower humidity levels in the coastal region.

4. Precipitation:
- Onshore winds can also influence the precipitation patterns in coastal regions. When the wind blows over a warm ocean current, it carries moisture-laden air onto the land, leading to increased chances of rainfall.
- Similarly, onshore winds blowing over a cold ocean current may result in decreased precipitation as the air loses moisture while passing over the cooler water.

5. Microclimates:
- The combination of onshore winds and ocean currents can create microclimates along the coastline. Microclimates refer to localized climate conditions that differ from the surrounding areas.
- For example, if an onshore wind blows over a warm ocean current, it can create a milder and more humid microclimate compared to inland regions.

Conclusion:
Onshore winds blowing over an ocean current play a crucial role in shaping the climate of coastal regions. The temperature, humidity, and precipitation patterns are all influenced by these winds. Understanding these interactions helps us comprehend the unique climatic conditions experienced in coastal areas.

Read the source given below and answer the questions that follow:There are six major controls of the climate of any place. They are: latitude, altitude, pressure and wind system, distance from the sea (continentality), ocean currents and relief features.Due to the curvature of the earth, the amount of solar energy received varies according to latitude. As a result, air temperature generally decreases from the equator towards the poles. As one goes from the surface of the earth to higher altitudes, the atmosphere becomes less dense and temperature decreases. The hills are therefore cooler during summers. The pressure and wind system of any area depend on the latitude and altitude of the place. Thus, it influences the temperature and rainfall pattern. The sea exerts a moderating influence on climate: As the distance from the sea increases, its moderating influence decreases and the people experience extreme weather conditions. This condition is known as continentality (i.e., very hot during summers and very cold during winters). Ocean currents along with onshore winds affect the climate of the coastal areas. For example, any coastal area with warm or cold currents flowing past it, will be warmed or cooled if the winds are onshore. Finally, relief too plays a major role in determining the climate of a place. High mountains act as barriers for cold or hot winds, they may also cause precipitation if they are high enough and lie in the path of rain bearing winds. The Leeward side of the mountains remains relatively dry.Q. What is the condition known as when it is very hot during summers and very cold during winters?
