Calculation:

Let the speed of the boat in still water be x km/hr

Speed downstream = (x + y) km/hr

Speed upstream = (x - y) km/hr

Given, boat goes 14 km/hr along the stream and 8 km/hr against the stream.

Therefore, we have

x + y = 14 …(1)

x - y = 8 …(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2), we get:

2x = 22

x = 11 km/hr

Therefore, the speed of the boat in still water is 11 km/hr
