Gifts of nature are fruits and nuts growing on trees, sunlight, rain, fresh flowing water, clean air, the sound of birds singing, beautiful vistas overlooking landscapes, the diversity of life on this planet, colorful sunsets, rainbows, life and death, freedom, all principles that belong to nature and her cycles.

Humans should be the stewards of nature, but sadly we are destroying her with our actions that pollute and damage her. We are also causing man-made global warming. Earth’s processes are our life-support system. We depend on them for our survival. It’s our urgent responsibility to respect, protect (conserve) and restore nature, which not only belong to us, but to all lifeforms on Earth, present AND future. Humanity must change paths or we risk extinction ourselves.

We should work to minimize the disruption of nature when we use any of Earth’s natural resources, which are finite (meaning they are NOT limitless or infinite). By using generally as few resources as possible, we can save some for future generations. Also other lifeforms on Earth that aren’t human deserve clean water, food, land, and air too.

By using renewable resources (solar & wind for energy and other natural materials for building and making things) we can harness what Earth has already given us freely (a true gift) instead of trashing and damaging the environment with drilling, mining, plastics etc (which do irreparable damage to ecosystems and in return, us).

By using readily available materials in nature for our use that are natural (wood, plants, locally collected water, recycling nutrients through composting, home-grown food, etc) we are living closer to Earth. These are things that are sourced ecologically. We can design our lives and our societies to live in harmony with Earth and her principles (check out what permaculture is). We can give back by planting trees and plants, taking care of how we live, our ecosystems and the animals that provide us what we need. This is going “back to nature.”

Gift of Nature

Nature provides us with a multitude of gifts that are essential for our survival and well-being. These gifts of nature, also known as natural resources, are the materials and substances found in nature that humans utilize to meet their various needs. They are classified into three main categories:

1. Renewable Resources: Renewable resources are those that can be replenished naturally over time. They include:

- Water: Water is a vital resource for all living organisms. It is used for drinking, irrigation, industrial purposes, and generating electricity through hydroelectric power plants.
- Wind Energy: Wind energy can be harnessed to generate electricity through wind turbines. It is a clean and renewable source of energy.
- Solar Energy: Solar energy is obtained from the sun and can be converted into electricity using solar panels. It is an abundant and renewable source of energy.
- Forest Resources: Forests provide us with timber, firewood, medicinal plants, and serve as habitats for various species. They also play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance.

2. Non-Renewable Resources: Non-renewable resources are those that cannot be replenished within a short period. They include:

- Fossil Fuels: Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are formed over millions of years from the remains of ancient plants and animals. They are used for energy production, transportation, and manufacturing.
- Minerals: Minerals like iron ore, copper, gold, and diamond are extracted from the earth's crust and used in various industries.
- Non-Metallic Minerals: Non-metallic minerals like limestone, gypsum, and salt are used in construction, agriculture, and chemical industries.

3. Ubiquitous Resources: Ubiquitous resources are those that are found everywhere and are available in unlimited quantities. They include:

- Air: Air is a mixture of gases, primarily nitrogen and oxygen, which is essential for respiration and supports life.
- Soil: Soil is a vital resource for agriculture and provides a medium for plant growth. It also acts as a natural filter for water.
- Sunlight: Sunlight is essential for photosynthesis, the process by which green plants convert sunlight into energy.

These gifts of nature are invaluable and sustain life on Earth. It is crucial to use them wisely and adopt sustainable practices to ensure their conservation for future generations.
