The youngest chief minister of India is Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who became the Chief Minister of Assam at the age of 33.

Background:
Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was born on December 20, 1952, in Nagaon district of Assam. He completed his graduation from Nowgong College and later went on to do his LLB from Gauhati University.

Political Career:
Prafulla Kumar Mahanta's political career started at a young age when he joined the All Assam Students Union (AASU). He played a crucial role in the Assam Movement, which aimed to protect the rights of the indigenous people of Assam. In 1985, he became the youngest Chief Minister of Assam when the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won the state assembly elections.

Contributions:
During his tenure as the Chief Minister, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta implemented various measures for the development of Assam. Some of his notable contributions include:

- Introduction of the Assam Accord, which aimed to resolve the issues related to illegal immigration in the state.
- Establishment of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) to provide better transportation facilities to the people.
- Setting up of the Assam Agricultural University to promote agricultural research and development in the state.
