सार

बोस्टन की पहली यात्रा के बाद, हेलेन ने हर जाड़े में उत्तर की यात्रा करना शुरू कर दिया। एक बार उसने नई इंग्लैंड की यात्रा की। वहाँ झीलें जमीं हुईं थीं तथा खेत बर्फ से ढकी हुई थी। वहाँ उसने हिमपात का अनुभव किया। उसने पाया कि पेड़ पूरी तरह से झड़े हुए थे, उनपर केवल कुछ सूखे हुए पत्ते लटके थे।

एक दिन, एक बर्फ का तूफान आया। सभी लोग गिर रहे बर्फ के छोटे टुकड़ों का अनुभव लेने के बाहर की ओर भागे। धीरे-धीरे, सारी सड़क बर्फ से ढँक गयी। शाम में, उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा से एक हवा का झोंका आया और उसने बर्फ के छोटे टुकड़ों को अलग-अलग दिशाओं में बिखेर दिया। हेलेन अपना समय दूसरों के साथ आग के सामने किस्से-कहानियाँ कहती हुयी बिता रही थी। रात में हवा अधिक उग्र हो गया और उन्हें अनिश्चित आतंक के साथ रोमांचित करता रहा। घर के अगल-बगल के पेड़ हवा में लहरा रहे थे और खिड़कियों पर टकरा रहे थे जिसकी चरमराहट और तोड़ने की आवाज़ को वे लोग सुन सकते थे।

तीसरे दिन, बर्फ के तूफान खत्म हो गया और सूरज दिखाई दिया। जब सूर्य की किरणें पेड़ों पर पड़ती थीं तब उनकी टहनियाँ हीरे की तरह चमकते थे। इस अवसर के दौरान हेलेन का पसंदीदा मनोरंजन tobogganing था। उसे वहाँ बहुत मज़ा आया।
