Well to understand better i'm just writing the stanza 3 of the poem then i will explain u step by step..so that both stanza and its explanation can be understood ..so lets start then
Surely, Shakespeare is wicked, the map a bad example,
With ships and sun and love tempting them to steal -
For lives that slyly turn in their cramped holes
From fog to endless night? On their slag heap, these children
Wear skins peeped through by bones and spectacles of steel
With mended glass, like bottle bits on stones.
All of their time and space is foggy slum.
So blot their maps with slums as big as doom.
Now here the poet calls the portrait of Shakespeare wicked(wrong or bad) because its meaningless for children going to a slum school.There is no benefit to put up his picture because there is no quality education in these school.The children will never learn abt Shakespeare's work.The map is also a bad example bcz for these children their classroom is the whole world for them.There is no world beyond their poverty,hunger and hopelessness, so these maps are unreal for them.The pictures of sun,ships indicate love and acceptance.Comprehending these pictures is beyond their abilities.Instead the desire for love and care will force them to do crimes like stealing bcz they cannot have all these worldly things.
"Cramped holes" is a metaphor to indicate their small homes which are filled to capacity. They hve adapted themselves to live in these spaces."From fog" alliteration is used."Fog" is a metaphor used for day.Endless is a "metaphor" to indicate a never ending torture.
Their bodies looks like garbage heaps. The children are so skinny that their clothes are like a skin and their skeleton is visible through them. This is due to lack of nutrition.They hve worn glasses which are made of steel which are cheap,heavy and uncomfortable.This signifies that their outlook on life is also hardened with their life ruthlessness. "like a bottle bits on stone" is a simile to describe the lenses in their spectacles which hve been repaired.Similarly their dreams hve also been broken by the harsh reality of their lives."All of their time and spaces are foggy slum" is a metaphor to show that their life is dark,dirty and without hope.
All of their life is being destroyed here in the slum.The slum is like a blot as big doom on the maps of these children i.e the lives of these children.
At last their chance of escaping have been further reduced by building bigger slums.The schools and government making these slums is the cause for these people to live in them.The education system is such that it is forcing them to live in these slums and not come come out of them...
