What is the importance of plasma proteins? Plasma is the colourless fluid of blood which helps in the transport of food, CO2, waste products, and salts. It constitutes about 55% of blood. About 6.8% of theplasma is constituted by proteins such as fibrinogens, globulins, and albumins.

Plasma is a colourless fluid of blood which help's in the transport of food ,CO2 , waste products and salts . It's constites about 55% of blood .About 6.8 of the plasma constituted by proteins such as fibrinogens, globulin and albumins .
Fibrinogens is a plasma glycoprotien synthesised by the lever .It plays a important role in the clotting of blood.
Globulin is a major protein of the plasma .It protects the body against infecting agents.
Albumins is a major protein of plasma. It helps in maintaining the fluid volume within the vascular space .

Common plasma proteins are: Albumin, globulin, fibrinogen, prothrombin etc. which constitute 6-8% of plasma.

Functions of plasma proteins:
1. Fibrinogen & prothrombin play a role in blood clotting.
2. Albumin & globulins maintain osmotic balance & retain water in blood plasma
3. Certain globulins called immunoglobulins (glycoproteins) act as antibodies in blood & tissue fluid.
4. Plasma proteins serve as acid-base buffers & maintains pH.
5. Thyroxine hormone is bound to albumin or other specific globulins for transport in the plasma.

Plasma proteins constitute about 7 to 8% of plasma. These mainly include albumin, globulin, prothrombin and fibrinogen. Prothrombin and fibrinogen are needed for blood clotting. Albumins and globulins retain water in blood plasma and helps in maintaining osmotic balance.
