14 Tips for PPDT Story Narration | Preparation Tips for SSB Interview - CDS PDF Download

PPDT is conducted in Stage-1 Screening immediately after OIR Testing. PPDT has three parts: story writing, narration, and group discussion. Once you finish writing your story, it's time to narrate it. This is a crucial part of the selection process because assessors often don't read your story. You need to explain everything through your narration.

14 TIPS FOR PPDT STORY NARRATION

Here are 14 Tips for Narrating Your PPDT Story Effectively, as recommended by the assessors. The assessor is the president of SSB Allahabad, and these tips will help you improve your narration in PPDT:

  1. Practice narrating your story to yourself before the actual narration. This will boost your self-confidence and enhance your performance.
  2. Memorize your story well. Sometimes candidates end up narrating something unrelated to the story they wrote. Stick to your story and base your narration around it. However, keep in mind that in group discussions, this approach may come across as rude and not valuing others' points of view.
  3. Individual narration is the perfect opportunity to showcase your qualities, such as self-confidence, power of expression, reasoning ability, and effective intelligence.
  4. Speak loudly and clearly so that everyone can hear your narration.
  5. Maintain eye contact with others while narrating your story. This will grab their attention and make them more interested in listening to you.
  6. If you have the chance to volunteer to speak, either go first or narrate your story at the end. This is when everyone is most attentive and interested in listening to you.
  7. If you get stuck in the middle of your narration, briefly explain your story again in 1-2 sentences and move on to the conclusion to wrap up your narration.
  8. Avoid taking more time than allocated to narrate your story. Typically, you should finish your story within a minute or two. Try to narrate it quickly while capturing its essence.
  9. After the individual narration, the group discussion (GD) begins, where all candidates in your group must reach a common conclusion. Value each other's points in the GD and be receptive to better ideas than your own. Don't cling to your story and impose it on others.
  10. The GD is an opportunity to demonstrate your Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). Try to showcase your social adaptability, cooperation, initiative, quick decision-making, influencing ability, and liveliness.
  11. Contribute your points to the group discussion, even if they are not related to your story. If a point is good and valid, share it with the group.
  12. Avoid letting the discussion turn into chaos. If it happens, try to calm others down with a few words, but don't get overly involved. Just maintain a modest attitude that the assessors can appreciate.
  13. The quality of your story is more important than its length. Avoid using overly complex words and focus on narrating a compelling story using simple language.
  14. Finally, practice a lot. Practice narrating your story at home in front of a mirror and pay attention to details like posture and gestures.

These tips will help you narrate your story in the best possible way during the PPDT. Incorporate them into your practice sessions, and remember, it's your OLQs that make you the best candidate for recommendation.
