History

• The district's name, Adilabad, originates from its headquarters town, named after the ruler of Bijapur, Ali Adil Shah. Over time, the district was not a singular entity; its regions were governed by various dynasties such as the Mauryas, Satavahanas, Vakatakas, Chalukyas of Badami, Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas of Kalyani, Mughals, Bhosle Rajas of Nagpur, and Asaf Jahis, along with the Gond Rajas of Sirpur and Chanda.
• Initially, the district was not a fully-fledged district but a sub-district called Sirpur-Tandur, established in A.D. 1872, comprising Edlabad (Adilabad), Rajura, and Sirpur as its constituent talukas. In 1905, this sub-district was elevated to an independent district with Adilabad as its headquarters. Furthermore, in 2016, the Adilabad district was reorganized into four districts: Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, and KumramBheem Asifabad Districts.

• The Kuntala Waterfalls can be found 12 kilometers from the village of Neredikonda, approximately 64 kilometers from Adilabad.
