The awards are presented by the Government of Haryana in various parts which are as follows:

Khel Ratna Awards

Bhim Award

  • The primary sports honor in Haryana is the Bhim Award, conferred upon exceptional athletes based on their sporting accomplishments over a four-year period. Established in 2001, it stands as the highest state sports award.
  • This award is regarded as comparable to the esteemed National Sports Award, the Arjuna Award, and is presented annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Haryana.
  • Recipients of the Bhim Award are bestowed with various rewards including a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a citation certificate, a Bhim statue, a scroll, a blazer, and a tie as part of the roll of honor.
  • Further benefits include a lifetime provision of free travel on Haryana State Transport buses for the awarded player. Geeta Zutshi was the inaugural recipient of the Bhim Award.

Maharana Pratap Award

  • Annually, this honor is presented to individuals who have dedicated their lives to the advancement of sports.
  • The award carries a designated cash prize of ₹2 lakh.

Dr. Radhakrishna Award

  • This accolade is specifically conferred upon PTI/DPI teachers within the state, initiated annually since 2015.
  • Recipients of this award receive a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a scroll, blazer, tie, and scarf as part of the recognition.

Best Sports Association Award

  • An award is bestowed upon the Sports Association in acknowledgment of its exceptional contributions in the realm of sports.
  • This accolade has been consistently granted every year since 2015, entailing a grant of ₹5 lakhs for the Sports Association.

Other Sports Awards of the State

  • Eklavya Award offers a yearly cash prize of ₹1 lakh to five young players annually.
  • Guru Vashistha Award involves a cash prize of ₹2 lakhs presented to sports coaches.

Gallantry Awardees from Haryana

The Government of India provides gallantry awards to the military personnel of the state in different categories.
The categories are as follows:

Param Vir Chakra Awardees

  • India's most extensive military honor is the Param Vir Chakra. Major Hoshiar Singh, who later rose to the rank of Brigadier, received this award from the Government of India in 1972 in recognition of his remarkable courage and outstanding leadership.
  • Born in 1936, Major Hoshiar Singh hailed from Sisana village in the Sonipat district.
  • He stands as the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from Haryana.

Vir Chakra Awardees

  • This accolade stands as the nation's third-highest military honor.
  • Recipients from Haryana include Roop Chand from Kharkhoda village in Sonipat district, awarded in 1948, Subedar Shivochand Ram from Kuleri village in Hisar district, honored in 1945, and posthumously bestowed upon Havildar Lakhmi Chand from Dhanana village in Bhiwani district in 1967.

Prize Money given to the Gallantry Awardees by the State Government

During wartime, the gallantry awards and their respective cash prizes are as follows:

  • Param Vir Chakra holds a cash prize of ₹2 Crore.
  • Maha Vir Chakra entails a cash reward of ₹1 Crore.
  • Vir Chakra is associated with a cash prize of ₹50 Lakh.
  • Army/Navy/Air Force Medal (Gallantry) offers a cash reward of ₹21 Lakh.
  • Mention in Dispatch (Gallantry) is linked with a cash prize of ₹10 Lakh.

During peacetime, the gallantry awards and their corresponding monetary benefits are:

  • Ashoka Chakra is accompanied by a cash prize of ₹1 Crore.
  • Kirti Chakra carries a cash reward of ₹51 Lakh.
  • Shaurya Chakra includes a cash prize of ₹31 Lakh.
  • Army/Navy/Air Force Medal (Gallantry) involves a cash reward of ₹10 Lakh.
  • Mention in Dispatch (Gallantry) is associated with a cash prize of ₹7.5 Lakh.

Apart from this, the State Government gives gallantry prize money every year to the gallantry award winners before 5th October, 2007.

Grants/Pension given to Gallantry Awardees and their Families Before Independence of India

  • Victoria Cross, the highest soldier honor in Britain, carries a grant of ₹15,000.
  • Military Cross entails a grant of ₹10,000.
  • Military Medal involves a grant of ₹5,000.
  • Indian Order of Merit is associated with a grant of ₹3,000.
  • Indian Exceptional Service Medal holds a grant of ₹2,000.
  • Mention in Dispatch for Pre-Independence Gallantry Awards only involves a grant of ₹2,000.

Prize Money to be given by the State Government to the Winners of the War Service Medal or Extraordinary Service Award

  • Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal entails a lump sum of ₹7 Lakh.
  • Param Vishisht Seva Medal involves a lump sum of ₹6.5 Lakh.
  • Uttam Yudh Seva Medal carries a lump sum of ₹4 Lakh.
  • Ati-Vishisht Seva Medal holds a lump sum of ₹3.25 Lakh.
  • Yudh Seva Medal is associated with a lump sum of ₹2 Lakh.
  • Vishisht Seva Medal entails a lump sum of ₹1.25 Lakh.

Educational Award

  • Each year, on Teachers’ Day (5th September), the Government of Haryana bestows the State Teacher Award upon exceptional educators in the education sector. This recognition is divided into two categories: Primary Teacher and Secondary Teacher. 
  • Recipients of this accolade receive a cash prize of ₹21,000 along with a citation. Moreover, there's a provision to extend their tenure in the government job by an additional two years.

Science Awards

The Haryana Government presents annual awards to commendable scientists for their remarkable contributions in the realm of science, including:

  • Haryana Youth Science Ratna Awards: These accolades are granted by the State Government annually on 28th February, coinciding with National Science Day, to recognize young scientists in the state who have exhibited exceptional achievements in technology and science. Recipients of this award receive a cash prize of ₹1,00,000.
  • Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award: Also presented by the Government of Haryana on the occasion of National Science Day, 28th February each year, this award recognizes scientific excellence. A cash prize of ₹4,00,000 is conferred under this category.

State Level Award for Women

The Haryana Government declared three state-level accolades for women on 8th March, 2010, marking the 100th International Women’s Day. The objective behind these awards is to inspire and support women across the state.
The awards are detailed as follows:

Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Puraskar

  • The State Government of Haryana established this award on 8th March, 2010. 
  • It is bestowed upon women within the state who have demonstrated exceptional efforts towards societal improvement, particularly in the realms of women's and children's welfare and rehabilitation. 
  • Recipients of this award receive a cash prize of ₹1.5 lakh along with a citation.

Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award

  • The 'Kalpana Chawla Shaurya' award was established in 2010 to commemorate Kalpana Chawla, India's pioneering female astronaut.
  • This distinction is conferred upon women who have displayed remarkable bravery, undertaking risks in their lives while contributing commendable services to society and the nation.
  • Recipients of this award are granted a cash prize of ₹51,000 along with a citation.

Bahin Shanno Devi Panchayati Raj Award

  • The Bahin Shanno Devi Award was established in 2010, honoring Bahin Shanno Devi, the inaugural female Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
  • This recognition is designated for female village council heads who have undertaken exceptional efforts towards women's empowerment, enhancing female literacy, improving health and nutrition, safeguarding the environment, and ensuring widespread education access.
