Adjectives are words that describe or provide additional information about nouns. Nouns are people, places, things or animals' names. Adjectives make our sentences more interesting and help to visualise what we're saying.
Read the following sentences:
The words big, small, happy and sad describe the nouns elephant, cat, Sarah and puppy. So they are adjectives. These are also called describing words. They tell us about the colour, shape, size, quantity and quality of something.
Types of Adjectives
There are four types of adjectives: Adjective of quality, number, demonstrative and possessive. Let's understand it further:
1. Adjectives of Quality
Adjectives of quality are used to describe how something is or what it is like.
Example: This is a beautiful flower.
It is an adjective of quality because it tells us what the flower is like - it's beautiful!

Adjectives of number are used to tell how many or how much of something there is.
Example: The teacher has six colourful pens.
It is an adjective of number because it tells us how many pens are there and what kind of pens they are.

Demonstrative adjectives are used to show specific things we are talking about.
Example: Give me this book.
It is a demonstrative adjective because it tells us which book we want.

Example: This is my doll.
It is a possessive adjective because it tells us that the doll belongs to me.
